Evolve™ Synergistic Antimicrobial and Antithrombogenic Coating
Minimise the risk of device related infections and thrombosis
“The evolution of medical coatings, the first truly antimicrobial and antithrombogenic coating”
 |

New from BioInteractions: Evolve™, an antithrombogenic and antimicrobial coating, developed specifically to target the hardier pathogens becoming more common for device-associated infections, whilst simultaneously demonstrating a true antithrombogenic effect as opposed to reducing thrombogenicity seen by more passive approaches to biocompatibility.
Long-term stability, enhanced tissue and blood compatibility, the copolymeric coating Evolve™ combines the antithrombogenic effects of heparin (a clinically used anticoagulant) with the proven antimicrobial properties of a biguanide, producing a synergy resulting in enhanced efficacy against the hardier strains of bacteria and fungi, without sacrificing the antithrombogenic and anti platelet capability of heparin hence dramatically reducing or eradicating both device related thrombus and infection at the same time.
In this era of expanding antibiotic resistance and increasing patient age, Evolve™ offers manufacturers and clinicians a new tool to overcome the complications commonly associated with implantable medical devices, while the synergistic effect of heparin on antimicrobial efficacy in our Evolve™ coating indicates potential applications for implantable (and extracorporeal) medical devices.
Evolve™ is a non-leaching coating, long lasting and unlike leaching technologies which may have a systemic effect (and an inherent lifetime in functionality) is local and effective.
Instead of targeting solely one of the problems associated with medical devices; Evolve™ takes a multifaceted approach to reducing such problems as infection, biofilm formation, thrombus formation and occlusion in one coating alone.
